The History Behind One of Massachusetts’ Oldest Farmers’ Markets…
Since 1975, the Greenfield Farmers' Market has connected local farmers, food producers, artisans, and neighbors in the heart of Franklin County. As one of Massachusetts' oldest farmers' markets, it has spent more than five decades supporting local agriculture, strengthening the regional food economy, and making fresh, seasonal food accessible to everyone.
Greenfield has long been a place where agriculture and community thrive. It is home to Reverend Lorenzo Lorraine Langstroth, the "Father of Modern Beekeeping," whose invention of the movable-frame beehive revolutionized beekeeping around the world. Each spring, the city honors his legacy with Bee Fest, a beloved community celebration featuring educational exhibits, local organizations, a pollinator parade, and hands-on activities that highlight the essential role bees and other pollinators play in growing the food we eat.
The festival reflects the same values that inspire our market: supporting local farms, protecting the environment, and connecting people to the land that feeds them.
Whether you're filling your grocery bag, picking up a bouquet, or simply catching up with neighbors, every visit helps support local farms. Thank you for being here!
